Cordless drills are
a dime a dozen. It's hard to figure out which
ones you want, especially after you read some of the
cordless drills reviews on Panasonic, Ryobi, Makita,
Bosch, Hitachi, Kawasaki, Skil, Dewalt, Porter Cable, etc.
They
make many different cordless drills for different uses.
The weekend warriors don't really need the top
end professional models that contractors use, do they?
What about some of the cordless drills ratings
you read about on consumer reports or other popular
review sites? They do run the drills through a
lot of different uses, but one test nobody has done
is the one where you drop the drill from a roof and
then test it.
Why
would I know about the 15 ft drop test? I work
on roofs all the time and the only drill I have ever
seen that can take a licking and keep on ticking is
the DeWalt Cordless Drills. As a part time
construction laborer: size, power, clutch, all those
things are important but if your cordless drill is not
rugged, then we can't use it.
Not
only that, now you have to concern yourself with cordless
drills batteries.
Which one holds the best charge, which ones last
the longest, who holds the longest charge? I've found
out with some of our drills that certain batteries wear
out a lot faster. We normally have 6 batteries
on each job site and 4 of them are plugged into the
charger at all times.
Should
a weekend warrior spend all that money on batteries
and chargers? I think not, so the lithium ion
batteries are your ticket. Which brands are
lithium ion cordless drills? Well, check out
the links to the top right and you'll find just the
drill you are looking for.
Keep
in mind you should also consider which drills have a:
smooth
turning clutch
ring
how
many different speeds does the transmission
have
enough
torque
for your applications
drive
train
bit
clip
and ease of use
do
you need a cordless hammer drill?
Well,
if you ask me Panasonic cordless drills are just as
good as Makita cordless drills and we personally own
a Ryobi cordless drill, one of the home depot promo's
and for around this house, it's plenty good enough.
Bottom
Line:
It really doesn't matter what you buy as long as it works for you and you are happy with it.
If
you ever get a chance take a serious look at the Metabo BSP 15.6 Plus.
It might just surprise the pants off you.
